Abstract:

Healthcare providers with limited point-of-care access to broadband Internet need better tools for clinical decisionsupport. To investigate possible solutions, we searched six medical search portals on five benchmark queries andformatted the results to simulate SMS text messages. Blinded evaluators with low-resource clinical experience foundrelatively small differences between the usefulness of the answers, from 4.1 for UpToDate to 3.6 for Cochrane andDynaMed (with 5 = very useful to 1 = not useful).
