The responsibilities of LSG (computational) linguists include (but are not limited to):

  • Building the SPECIALIST Lexicon of the UMLS (Unified Medical Language System)
  • Morphological analysis of (potentially) derivationally related word/term pairs
  • Semantic analysis of synonymy of (especially) biomedical word/term pairs
  • Contribute general linguistic supports
  • Contribute new ideas to enhance the SPECIALIST Lexicon and Lexical Tools, to support natural language processing projects
