Abstract:
Telemedicine can be defined as using telecommunications and computers to provide information to support medical decision-making. This is a very inclusive definition and would include examples such as the use of electronic medical records, computer based literature searching, decision support systems, and the very familiar distance consultation and conferencing. The U.S. Nation al Library of Medicine (NLM) sponsored several projects to demonstrate the use of advanced telemedicine techniques.
